Medicinal Herb Farm - Seedlings / Crop List & Plans 2023

As some of you know, I am levelling up with medicinal herbs this season.
Several new no-till beds have been added this month to make room for hundreds of medicinal plants..
Maybe it seems out of the blue, if you’ve only known me as a flower gal. But it’s not, really..
as I have a bit of history with herbs!
Back in 2011 I took a fantastic 4-month program about herbal medicine through the Pacific Rim college in Victoria, BC.
I learned a ton!
That information has served me ever since, in countless situations - helping me to know what herbal medicines to take for all sorts of health issues that come up in life, everything from indigestion, bladder issues, colds, eye infections, muscle pain, skin issues, dental issues, the list goes on.
Of course there is certainly a very important role for modern western medical treatments such as surgery and pharmaceuticals, and yet this approach often falls short when it comes to many common issues which start out as minor, and can usually be resolved quite easily with simple, non-invasive, and often totally enjoyable natural remedies.
There are countless medicinal plants which grow right in the garden which will come in handy if you know what to do with them! Order Medicinal Seedlings this May in Red Deer, AB >>

My mom has always been one to inspire me to be interested in health, nutrition, and knowing different homemade remedies - we have been making calendula salves since the early 2000’s and growing wheatgrass as well. She has her own venture going on with wheatgrass, which I will share more about in upcoming posts. Right now I’m super grateful I now have an opportunity to grow herbs for my family, community, customers and of course, the bees!
I found a Canadian supplier of medicinal seeds, Salt Spring Seeds. https://www.saltspringseeds.com/ - If you are into growing medicine in canada, theirs is a website to check out!

They have plenty of information on their website, and dozens of species of seeds which are hard to come across in the garden centre. We purchased many varieties from this company, and were pleased with their service, the seeds, and especially the lovely artwork cards they sent with the order. Salt Spring Island is an amazing, mystical sort of place in Canada, with a great climate for growing - but I tried to stay away from perennials which wouldn't stand a chance to overwinter here in zone 3 Alberta.
